Screening and awareness program on Neurodevelopmental Disorders

The SRM College of Occupational Therapy has conducted on behalf of celebrating World Occupational Therapy Month October 2024 with a community outreach program that has focused on “Screening and awareness program on Neurodevelopmental Disorders”. Awareness of neurodevelopmental disorders is essential for early detection and intervention, which can significantly enhance the quality of life for children with neurodevelopmental disorder.

The Outreach program was held on 21st November 2024 in “Government Aathidravidar primary school-Nandivaram, Guduvanchery”. A total of 21 teachers, parents and students were participated. This event was organized under the guidance of Mr. D. Anbarasu, Associate Professor at SRM College of Occupational Therapy and Mrs. Sreelekha S, Assistant Professor at SRM College of Occupational Therapy. The sessions were conducted by the Occupational Therapy internship students Dhavamani G, Vinita E, Jayashree S, Janavi sree R, Gokul Ram S and Dayanidi SK. The Awareness program focused on educating participants about Neurodevelopmental Disorders including their signs, symptoms, and the importance of establishing effective roles and routines. It also highlighted the crucial role of occupational therapists in supporting children with Neuro Developmental disorder. The program included screening for early signs of these disorders in children, aiming to facilitate timely intervention and provide the necessary support.

The session included a question-and-answer segment where teachers and parents received personalized guidance and practical strategies from Mr. D. Anbarasu, Associate Professor at SRM College of Occupational Therapy, to support children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders. The event provided an opportunity to enhance understanding of Neuro developmental disorder and connect with professionals for expert advice.

Outcome of the program: The Neuro developmental disoder awareness program emphasized on active participation and valuable feedback from teachers and parents regarding their experiences and two children were referred for occupational therapy services in SRM  by the school teachers with their parents consent.

Creating Awareness on Autism Spectrum Disorder

The SRM College of Occupational Therapy has been on behalf of celebrating World Occupational Therapy Month October 2024 with a community outreach program that has focused on “Creating Awareness on Autism Spectrum Disorder”. Teachers can play a crucial role in recognizing signs of autism, especially since children with autism are often observed in the classroom setting for long periods of time. Creating awareness for autism is essential to promote understanding, reduce stigma, support early intervention, and stand-in a more inclusive society for individuals with autism spectrum disorder.

The Outreach program was held on 20th November 2024 for parents and teachers in “Euro Kids Preschool, Guduvanchery”. A total of 15 teachers and parents participated. This event was organized under the guidance of Mr. D. Anbarasu, Associate Professor at SRM College of Occupational Therapy and Mrs. Sreelekha S, Assistant Professor at SRM College of Occupational Therapy and the sessions were conducted by the occupational therapy internship students Jayashree S, Janavi sree R, Gokul Ram S and  Dayanidi SK.

This was followed by event  focused on topics such as autism and its signs and symptoms,  roles and routines and the role of occupational therapists for the children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The session also included a question-and-answer segment where teachers and parents could ask for advice and suggestions. This interactive part of the event with teachers and parents by Mr. D.Anbarasu sir, gave a personalized guidance and practical thoughts that can be implemented at school and home to support their children with autism.

Overall, the event provided an opportunity to learn more about autism and connect with professionals offering expert support and recommendations. The program emphasized active participation and encouraged valuable feedback from teachers and parents based on their personal experiences.

Awareness Programm On Occupational Therapy In Orthopedics For In - Pateints

SRM College of Occupational Therapy – Orthopaedics unit organized a AWARENESS PROGRAM ON OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY IN ORTHOPEDICS FOR INPATIENT on 6th of March 2025 at Hospital 2nd floor- Orthopedic department skill room. A total of 25 In – patients from both male and female ward of orthopedics department participated in this program.

Our respected Mr. D. Anbarasu sir, Clinical coordinator and Associate Professor delivered informations and keypoints about occupational therapy to our inpatients followed by Mr. Manojraj and Ashlin Reji our MOT students delivered an interactive and practical demonstration of basic techniques to the inpatients. Dr. Thirumalai of Orthopedic department delivered about osteoporosis and its importance tips in old age. Promoting Awareness on Arthritis

SRM College of Occupational Therapy shines a light on promoting awareness on Arthritis on account of World Occupational Therapy Day among Community people.
